What has been going on with me lately? I just finished the most stressful semester of college yet. This is only the second time that I have taken four classes at one time while also working full time and spending time with my family. One class I had was with a professor that expected you to know the material before you took the class. That was a first for me. The best part about it though is I am finished, I passed and now I only have one semester left.
When I graduate next spring I hope to be a little more active on here. It just popped into my head last night that I haven’t posted anything in a while. I do not have much to update though. I had to do some tweaking to my site as the theme had changed the layout.
I added some of my social media links, but I am not active on there at all. I try to avoid social media as much as I can. But in the event that one day I have enough to post and share on them then I will be more active on those as well. For the time being I am trying to adopt the digital minimalist philosophy.
Speaking of digital minimalism, I recently read a new book by Cal Newport titled ‘Digital Minimalism: Choosing a Focused Life in a Noisy World.’ This isn’t the first Newport book that I have read but it felt like it fit me the most.
There have been times lately that I will be scrolling through social media and realize that I have just wasted a half hour of my life with absolutely nothing to show for it. I personally do not feel there is any benefit to social media at all. This website will be where I share most of the thoughts that come to me instead of using social media. I really don’t care about likes and all of that nonsense so for the time being, I will practice this digital minimalism. I will express my thoughts here and that way I have something that I am proud of.
Speaking of that Cal Newport book, I recently got a Kindle and reading on that is quite enjoyable. I was trying to read books on a large 12.9 inch iPad Pro and that makes things difficult. The weight of it makes it difficult to hold comfortably for any length of time to read. An iPad also comes with notifications that distract you so the Kindle has been my saving grace for reading without digital interruptions. I may write something more about that later on.
What else is new? I did build my first computer. I will make another post detailing that process. It came with some challenges, but I was successful. That may be my next post though I am not sure yet. I want this one to be as detailed as possible so it may take me a while to put together how I want it to be.
In the last few semesters, I must do some projects that involves step by step walkthroughs of how I did those. I would like to add those to my website as soon as I can get the photographs taken care of. They look ok in the walkthrough, but I am not so sure that will progress to a website. I will have to give it a shot and see if I can pull that off with what I already have.
Those are just some of the things that I have been doing lately. Again, once I finish college and actually have free time I will be more active on this website. I have some plans for it that I am excited about.
Until next time! Shane signing off.
